Laundry Rooms Deserve Better Than Bare Walls
The laundry room is one of the hardest-working rooms in the house and one of the least planned. Detergent bottles crowd the top of the washer. Clean clothes pile on whatever surface is free. The ironing board leans in a corner. Custom laundry room cabinets change that by giving every task a place: storage up high, folding space at counter height, and hidden spots for the things you do not want to see.
Laundry rooms are also wet rooms. Washers leak, dryers vent humid air, and Orlando's climate adds moisture from outside. We build laundry cabinets with sealed, moisture-resistant materials so they hold up where builder-grade cabinets fail.
Laundry Cabinet Layouts
Over the Washer and Dryer
Cabinets above the machines use the most wasted space in the laundry room. We build them deep enough for detergent and supplies but shallow enough that you can reach everything without a step stool. A hanging rod or drying rack mounted under the cabinet gives delicates a place to air-dry.
Folding Counters
A counter spanning over front-load machines creates a full folding surface at a comfortable height. We build the counter from durable materials that handle damp clothes and hot irons, supported to carry the load without sagging.
Utility and Sink Cabinets
A laundry sink cabinet with a deep basin handles hand-washing, soaking stains, and filling mop buckets. Base cabinets beside the machines hold hampers, cleaning supplies, and bulk detergent. Tall broom cabinets keep mops, vacuums, and ironing boards upright and out of sight.
Features That Make Laundry Easier
- Pull-out drying racks: Racks that slide out for delicates and tuck away when not in use.
- Hanging rods: A sturdy rod for hang-dry clothes and for shirts coming out of the dryer before they wrinkle.
- Hamper pull-outs: Tilt-out or pull-out hampers sorted by lights, darks, and delicates, hidden behind cabinet fronts.
- Ironing board storage: A slim pull-out or wall cabinet that holds the board and iron together.
- Countertop outlets: Plugs at counter height for the iron and steamer, placed to code with your electrician.
- Open cubbies: For folded towels, baskets, and the items you grab daily.
Built for Moisture
Every laundry cabinet we build uses cabinet-grade plywood boxes with fully sealed edges, the same standard as our bathroom vanities. Particle board has no place in a laundry room: one washer hose leak can destroy it. Finishes are hard-cured conversion varnish or catalyzed lacquer that resist water and cleaning chemicals.
We also plan ventilation. If your dryer vents into the room instead of outside, fixing that protects the cabinets and the house. A working exhaust fan or a vent to the exterior keeps humid air moving instead of settling on every surface.
Designing for Orlando Laundry Spaces
Orlando laundry rooms come in three common shapes: the garage laundry, the hallway closet laundry, and the dedicated laundry room. Garage laundries in block homes deal with the most heat and humidity, so we use maximum sealing and recommend keeping supplies in closed cabinets rather than open shelves. Hallway closet laundries are tight, so we go vertical: stacked storage above, pull-outs below, and bifold-friendly depths. Dedicated laundry rooms get the full treatment with folding counters, sink cabinets, and hanging space.
Many Florida homes put the laundry near the pool bath or the garage entry, which means wet swimsuits and sandy towels. We add hooks, a drip-friendly zone, and easy-clean surfaces in those layouts.
Materials and Finishes
Painted maple is the most popular choice for laundry cabinets because it brightens a small room and wipes clean easily. White oak and other stained woods suit laundry rooms that open to living spaces where you want a furniture look. Interiors get light, wipeable finishes so spills and detergent drips clean up fast. See more material detail in our cabinet wood types guide.
Small Laundry Spaces: Closets and Hallways
Not every Orlando home has a laundry room. Many have a laundry closet in the hallway or a stacked unit tucked beside the garage. Custom cabinets make these tight spaces work. We build shallow upper cabinets that clear the washer lid or dryer door swing, add a narrow pull-out for detergent between the machines and the wall, and mount a fold-down drying rack or retractable clothesline inside the closet door.
For stacked washer-dryer units, we build a surround cabinet that frames the machines floor to ceiling, with storage above for supplies and a hamper pull-out below or beside. Bifold or sliding doors hide the whole setup when guests come over, and we design the cabinet depths so the doors close without hitting the machine controls.
Lighting is critical in closet laundries because they rarely have a window. A motion-sensor LED inside the cabinet means you can see the controls and read detergent labels without holding a phone flashlight. We wire it during the project so it just works.
The same moisture rules apply in small spaces, arguably more so, because steam concentrates in a closet. We use sealed plywood, hard-cured finishes, and we make sure the dryer vents fully to the exterior, never into the closet or attic.
Our Laundry Room Process
We visit your home, measure the laundry space, and note your machines, plumbing, and electrical. Then we draw the full plan: cabinet sizes, counter layout, rod placement, and outlet locations. After approval, we build in the shop and install in one to two days. Most laundry projects take 5 to 8 weeks from drawings to install.
What Laundry Room Cabinets Cost
Custom laundry room cabinets in the Orlando area commonly range from $4,000 to $12,000, depending on room size, cabinet count, counters, and features like sink cabinets or pull-out drying racks. A simple over-machine cabinet run with a folding counter sits near the lower end; a full laundry room with sink base, tall storage, hampers, and hanging zones sits near the upper end. Every project differs, so these are starting points. The written quote after we measure your laundry room is the real number. More pricing context is in our Orlando cabinet cost guide.
